In what way does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In most punk rock music videos we are used to seeing busy
chaotic scenes with shots of band members singing and playing instruments. Part
of the reason I picked to do Green Days Missing You is everyone’s used to Green
Days heavy punk rock sound and image. Missing You has a softer rock tone to it,
it focuses on love compared to hate, destruction and the struggle of fitting as
most punk videos depict. Missing You takes Green Day slightly away from their
image allowing for scope to change their image further and open up to a wider
audience.
As the song has slightly moved away from a punk rock sound I
wanted my music video to do the same. My video depicts the main character walking
around feeling lost, it shows her holding pictures of a loved one, the loved
one isn’t around. The main character is searching for her missing friend.
I wanted my video to put across the message of love and
loss, I used low and high camera shots to do this. These two camera angles can be used to make a person seem very big or very small, if the character is made to look small this could show that they are lost, unimportant or lonely.
My video definitely moves away from the stereotypical portrayal
of punk rock.
I feel by doing this that I will be able to connect to a wider audience, people may watch the video possibly not realising that it is under the punk rock genre, this opens up the opportunity for people to possibly listen to more of this genre.

The main purpose of posters and
digi-paks is to help sell and promote bands and artists. The poster and digi-pak
are mostly used, as they are easily accessible and easy for the audience to see
and remember. If you were handing out black posters or digi-paks no one would
be interested as there isn’t any visuals for them to connect to. Most Digi-paks
and posters include shots or references to the music video in which the are
promoting, it would be pointless to have the music video one genre and the
cover art another as it would lead people in to think its one thing and it
actually turn out to be another.
My digi-pak and poster both provide
images of the characters with in the music video, I decided to do this to give the
audience an idea of what to expect from the video/song before viewing or
listening to it.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I have learnt that the narrative connects will with the chosen song, it is easy to see that the main character is lost and longing for her friend. People find it easy to connect and relate to the situation that the main character is in.
People I asked all agreed that the smoke cloud was a bit distracting and that I could take more care when editing to make sure the whole video runs smoothly and doesn't jump when cut to next scene.
All in all I and very positive reactions to my music video, everyone that watched said the felt they related well to to character and that they'd happily watch my music video again.
