Lyrics: From Billie Joes point of view (lead singing of Green Day) I'd say the song is about him possibly missing his wife, he is away the lot of the time touring and recording albums so it would make sense for this to be the meaning, though I personally feel that the song could be about a recent break up. "You're not around and I'm a complete disaster" this to me seems like someone who has recently ended a relationship and is still stuck in the first stages of the break up, but going back to what I said about Billie and his wife these lyrics still make perfect sense in that situation.
The song then goes on reminiscing about past events that happened in this persons life "it was the first time I told you I loved you at the bus station" this would make sense for the song to be about a break up, the person still clearly loves the other and is remembering the important things that happened within the relationship. These lyric I feel are very flexible in how people interpret it and relate to it, I feel that my music video fits well with the lyric, my music video shows a friend searching for another. The view may interpret this as the two friends had a falling out, one may have moved away or that the two are in a relationship but society is possibly keeping them away from each other.
